This webpage is for new Instructor Candidates or for the Established Instructor looking to re-align with our training center. The American Heart Association requires Instructors to align with a Training Center. DVA is a training center for the AHA. An instructor Candidate is given the opportunity to align with a Training Center during their Initial Instructor Course. Please read on through the following sections and further below is a list solutions for particular situations regarding alignment and instructor status.

Information from the AHA Program Administration Manual (PAM) regarding Instructor Status and Alignment: An Instructor is an individual who has completed the instructor course and is seeking instructor status in any discipline. Before the Instructor can operate as an AHA ACLS, BLS, or PALS Instructor, he/she must align with a contracted AHA Training Center. Any Instructor who is not aligned with a TC is not authorized to act as an AHA Instructor.

The time involved in processing an application for alignment depends on the TC's work volume and inquiries as to the status of an application must be made only to the TC, and not the AHA. No fees are paid to the AHA for this alignment and any fees charged for Instructor alignment are solely at the discretion of the TC.

Training Centers are not required to accept incomplete applications for alignment or from Instructors not known by the TC Coordinator. The TC Coordinator may require a meeting or monitoring of the applicant Instructor before acceptance in the TC. The decision as to whether to accept the Instructor for alignment is made by the TC Coordinator and is final.

All Instructors are required to maintain alignment with a Training Center. If the TC or Instructor terminates alignment for any reason, the Instructor may no conduct courses or issue provider cards until he/she has realigned with another TC.

Training Centers have the authority to allow Instructors to conduct courses and issue course completion cards bearing the AHA logo. TCs are not required to accept or retain Instructors who fail to meet or maintain the high quality of instruction of AHA courses as outlined in the Instructor's manuals and the Program Administration Manual. TCs may revoke the alignment privilege of any Instructor who fails to act in accordance with AHA course policy.
